Quick overall impressions of tonight's VP debate. If you didn't watch it in it's entirety please do because we all know how the media will dissect this over and over tonight and tomorrow. Form your own opinions first before reading all the 'expert' opinions...
Joe Biden was phenomenal.
I will admit I didn't know much about him or where he stood on many things until tonight. He went above and beyond all expectations. He was calm and collected throughout. He refrained from attacking Palin and focused on what matters most; the differences in issues between Obama and McCain. He had specific points and gave examples of policies in the past as well as specific examples of policies he and Obama have for the future.
Overall grade: A-
Sarah Palin was moderately good.
Her strength is definitely on showmanship and adding pizazz to the ticket. She did better then I thought after all the gaffes she made this week in her recent interviews. She seemed nervous at first and was addressing the camera even when she was talking to Biden, but she loosened up toward the end there. I don't get the winks to the home viewers though. Is she flirting with me? Do I trust her because she's got that Hot Librarian look to her? I just didn't get it...
Still, I was unable to hear specifics from the Republicans. This has been a major point in my criticism of the McCain/Palin ticket all along. I have heard what they have done (maybe a little embellished, but who doesn't embellish their resume) but I have yet to hear concrete ideas on how they are going to 'change' and 'reform' Washington. Biden had specific points one what an Obama administration will try to accomplish. Palin just went on using flashy words like 'Alaska' and 'maverick' and 'straight talker' and 'reform' and 'corruption'...Please for the love of all that is holy tell me what your actual plan is...Her grade got bumped a little because she did help her image, but I don't think she helped the McCain ticket any.
Overall grade: C+
Does this debate change the tide of the election? Not really because tomorrow the House votes on the bailout and by the end of the weekend that is what everyone will be focused on and then Tuesday is Debate #3 so overall this debate won't sway the tide of the election either way.
It was a better debate than the first one though...
