What Does This Have to Do With Anything?

I'm all for supporting the troops, but what does this heart-wrenching video have to do with being a Republican?

I'm not a Republican nor a Democrat, but when I turned on the TV to catch a bit of the Republican Convention last night I was a little turned off by this video and their "Country First" slogan.

It just seems kind of like a slap in the face to anyone who's not a strict Republican and doesn't support the war in Iraq. I guess Freedom of Speech and having an opinion isn't in the Republican Party's vocabulary. At least when it's the opposite opinion of theirs.

I want to hear about policies, not chants of U-S-A and who's more patriotic. I hope they do better tonight and at least go into some detail of what their plans are for the next 4 years...

Thank you! I watched the entire thing Nik hoping to see the republicans fight back with the "change" they keep promising us, but instead we got the same old same old. Instead of fighting back the democrat's passionate speeches with their own passion they instead opted with the old tactic of making anyone in America not republican (or voting for their ideals) un-american. They shove that Country First theme down our throats last night. Every video and every speech. It was disgusting, sad and disappointing. I hope things turn around tonight.

Did you really add my blog to your blog roll? lol. Now I feel like I have to update for the first time since I set it up a year ago.

That makes me want to vomit. Because while they are shouting 'Country First' did any of them stop to think that, oh I don't know, NOT starting a pointless war might actually be beneficial for the country? Or that the billions of dollars being wasted on this pointless war might have better use poured back into the country itself?

Hmm - I guess they didn't think of that.

Ross My Friend The Democrats are the ones promising Change and I haven't heard anything about it. Barack said he didn't want the usual Washington Insiders then he goes and Pick's Biden? Right now both parties are just ridiculously silly. I am hoping that tonight will be much better, also just like the democrats convention each night has a theme. Last nights was "Country First". All I can hope is that tonight you will get less of this and they will concentrate on a diffrent theme. See you at Dinner!

Jim:

"Both Senator Obama and I promise we will end Washington's stagnant, unproductive partisanship. But one of us has a record of working to do that and one of us doesn't," McCain said. "Americans have seen me put aside partisan and personal interests to move this country forward. They haven't seen Senator Obama do the same. For all his fine words and all his promise, he has never taken the hard but right course of risking his own interests for yours; of standing against the partisan rancor on his side to stand up for our country. He is an impressive man, who makes a great first impression. But he hasn't been willing to make the tough calls; to challenge his party; to risk criticism from his supporters to bring real change to Washington. I have." - John McCain

"I promise you, if you're sick and tired of the way Washington operates, you only need to be patient for a couple of more months," McCain shouted to an animated crowd in Missouri on Sunday night. "Change is coming! Change is coming! Change is coming! Change is coming!" - John McCain

"In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers," she said in a barbed reference to Obama and his campaign theme. "And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."
Sarah Palin

That sounds like a promise of change to me.

Also, I am well aware of themes and these conventions. However Monday nights theme at the GOP convention was not country first. It was "Who is John McCain?". Country First is a subliminal message the party is using to make everyone else look less patriotic. Two hours into tonights speeches and the message continues. Its disgusting. I would vote republican if I felt it was the right choice to make. I will vote democratic if its the right choice to make. No matter who I vote for wont determine whether I am patriotic or not. Voting itself is what proves my patriotism. Voting for the candidate that will improve our country the most is putting the country first. A party that claims voting for their candidate is putting country first is doing nothing of the sort. It is putting its own selfish ideals first. I choose to listen to both parties before making my choice. I am not a democrat. I am not a republican, but disgusting politics like the GOP is displaying so far this week pushes me further away from the unbiased middle.
