Why Do I Like Harry Potter So Much?

Dork Alert: The following post shows just how much of a dork I am. Read at your own risk...

The first trailer for the next Harry Potter movie just hit the Internet last night. I've watched it several times now and get goosebumps every time I watch it. As I was watching it for the 4th time it made me wonder just why I love the Harry Potter Series so much. Am I just a dork at heart? Maybe so...

Just to prove to you how obsessed I am with the Series I will tell you right now that I have read through the Harry Potter books 4 or 5 times now. I've lost count. I also have the audio books on my iPod as well and have listened to them at work recently and will probably again before the next movie comes out in November...

I've read and liked other novels in the past, but I've never immersed myself so much into a book before reading Harry Potter. I just seem to get lost in the moment when I read them and everything around me disappears. It's like I'm inside someones memory just like the Pensive for those other Potty Geeks out there reading this...

Anyway, I chalk it up to great writing. It brings me back to my youth when I would imagine everything and anything. It also inspires me to be able to write something like that. Maybe not a novel because I don't know if I could every be so detailed and my vocabulary isn't stellar either, but maybe a short story or screenplay. I think my heart just tells me that I could do something like this, not at this level per say, but something that people might put down after reading it and say, 'wow'...

Another point I want to make is how the Books and Movies are the same story, but different takes of it. A lot of fans do not like the movies because they cut things and change things around to fit it all onto a screen in two and a half hours. I actually love that aspect of it even if I get disappointed from time to time when they don't include something here or there...

The tones of the movies have stayed true to the books in my mind and that's all that matters. My favorite book was by far the 4th book, but so far my favorite movie is the 5th one. I am so glad David Yates is directing the 6th and both parts of the 7th movie as well. I think all of the directors were able to capture the magic (no pun intended) of the books and tones well, but Yates has taken them to new levels...

I want to point out that although I am a pretty obsessed fan, I am not demanding that J.K. Rowlings write another book. I would definitely not mind if she did (perhaps a prequel about the Founding Members of Hogwarts?) but I am perfectly content reading the wonderful Series she has already created over and over again. They never get old or stale to me and each time I read them is like the first time...

I know not everyone is a Potter fan and I'm not trying to make you out to be one. I just hope there is something out there that can captivate you and inspire you as much as this series has done for me. It truly is a wonderful feeling...

Don't sell yourself short, Nik. Nice use of the word "stellar." You just might have the novel writin' chops necessary.
